The Land Transport Authority of Singapore (LTA) recently conducted enforcement operations at several locations against drivers who provide illegal carpooling services.
Carpooling services such as Grabhitch, Rydepool or those privately arranged involving payment are not allowed during this Phase 2 Heightened Alert.
Private booking arrangements through Telegram chat groups are illegal and are not allowed.
The Operation
On 29 Jul 2021, the Land Transport Authority of Singapore (LTA) posted their recent enforcement action carried out this week.
According to our observant eyes, the white Mazda was booked and towed somewhere in Punggol while the maroon Toyota Vios was in Woodlands.
Two drivers were booked for allegedly using unlicensed vehicles to provide transport services. The other driver was booked for allegedly providing transport services without the requisite vocational licence.
All the vehicles have been seized while investigations are being carried out. LTA reminds the public that carpooling services such as Grabhitch, Rydepool and any other privately arranged ones involving payments are not allowed during this P2HA period. LTA added that the public should take public transport or licensed ride-hailing services to book a private-hire car or taxi.
The enforcement actions against errant drivers are not new. LTA conducted a similar enforcement action against private bookings back in April 2020.
This most recent clampdown by LTA should serve as a warning to all drivers. It is not worth risking having your car towed up the lorry and waiting for your summon to come. Be safe and be responsible.
