Renew Your Vocational Driving License (PDVL) Easily in 2024: A Quick Guide

If you have a Private Hire Car Driver’s Vocational Licence (PDVL), it’s time to talk about renewing it in 2024.

Don’t worry; it’s not as complicated as it may seem. Here’s a straightforward guide to help you through the process:

When do I need to renew my licence

A vocational license is good for three years after every renewal. Before it expires, you’ll get a letter from the Land Transport Authority (LTA), usually a month or two before your licence expiry.

What You Need for Renewal

There are 3 main things to take note of for renewal. Here’s a simple breakdown:

1. Get a Checkup

If you’re 50 or older, you need regular health checkups to keep your license valid. Even if your license is not expiring this year, don’t forget to do your health check as per the schedule.

Vocational licence holders aged 50 to 64 must undergo a medical check-up every 2 years by bringing LTA’s Medical Examination Form (PDF, 173kB) to any Singapore-registered clinic or SATA Diagnostic Centre.

If any of the listed conditions in Section F of the medical form are marked ‘Yes,’ the driver must obtain an additional memo from a medical specialist certifying their fitness to drive a Public Service Vehicle.

Upon reaching 65 years of age, medical requirements must be met every year.

At 70, 73, and 74 years of age, you need to get a checkup with a doctor and do a driving test at specific centres. Book a slot, and submit the needed reports to LTA or Traffic Police for renewal.

2 Do a Refresher Course

Taxi and private hire car drivers must undergo a refresher course once every 6 years.

They can select from two providers: ComfortDelGro and NTUC Income. The refresher course costs $43.60 including GST.

Additionally, they can utilize SkillsFuture to assist with the cost.

You need to provide a copy of the LTA notice to the course provider.

3. Keep Your Medisave in Check

Ensure that you maintain up-to-date contributions to your MediSave account. You must either have fully paid the required amount or have an approved monthly contribution plan in place.

Final Step

Once you fulfil the requirements specified in your renewal notice, proceed to follow the instructions provided in the notice on how to renew your license.

You can renew your license through one of the following methods:
– Accessing the GoBusiness Licensing portal
– Scheduling an appointment at LTA’s Customer Service Centre

Renewal fees payable to LTA are $40.

Renewing Expired vocational licence

If your vocational license has expired, you can still renew it if it has not expired for more than 3 years.

You can still renew vocational licenses that have expired for less than 6 months after meeting all the requirements.

Drivers who have not received the notice from LTA should contact them to obtain it.

Expired vocational licenses that have been expired for more than 6 months but less than 3 years will incur a late renewal fee of $25.

If your vocational license has been expired for over 3 years, you need to submit a new application for the license.
