There is a new carpooling service in town and thousands have joined.
The Straits Times reported that more than 1,300 people have joined the Telegram group within the past 2 weeks.
At the time of writing, more than 2,900 people have joined the carpooling chatgroup. They include both drivers and riders.
What is this SG Hitch Telegram Group about?
According to the Pinned Message, the SG Hitch Telegram group serves as a bridge between Drivers and Hitchers to provide a CHEAPER alternative with the demolition of late night Grab Hitch services. Grabhitch service was made unavailable between 1 am to 5 am from 1 October 2018.
Drivers looking for hitchers can key in their trip details such as pick-up and drop-off points, time and number of pax. Hitchers looking for drivers also key in similar details.
From there, they can look out for an available match and agree on a fare.
Should I join?
Even if I tell you this has little chance of succeeding, you also will join and see see right? Download and install the Telegram App and search SG Hitch. Join the group and see how it is.
Although there is zero commission payable, we do not see how this can possibly work.
Firstly, getting a match by scrolling thru the hundreds of requests is too tedious. Secondly, there is no ‘system’ to check if the driver is licensed, proper or have insurance to drive the car. Thirdly, there is no one to complain to if something goes wrong.
Most importantly, such a carpooling arrangement would not escape our ‘garment’s radar’ for long lah.
