GrabShare Suspended and Support for Grab Drivers who are affected by the Coronavirus

Grab has announced that GrabShare services will be temporarily suspended from Sunday 9 Feb 2020 0100 hours onwards.

The move to suspend GrabShare comes shortly after Singapore moved up its response status to the outbreak to code orange on 7 Feb 2020.

A 64-year-old taxi driver and a 53-year-old private-hire driver have also been confirmed to have contracted the novel coronavirus on 8 Feb 2020. Go-Jek had previously suspended 1 of their driver who was suspected of ferrying a rider with the virus

Support from Govt for Private-Hire and Taxi Drivers who are affected

The government will provide a $100/day quarantine allowance for Singaporean and Permanent Residences who are affected and placed on quarantine.

Measures from Grab

Grab will waive vehicle rental cost for drivers who are renting from GrabRentals and GrabRentals’ affiliated partners during the quarantine period. Do check if your rental company is a GrabRentals’ affiliated partner.

Drivers will receive a 1-time income support during the quarantine period.

Emerald Circle points earned during the quarantine period will be calculated based on the daily average points achieved by the driver-partner during the calendar quarter. The calculated total number of points will then be used to determine the affected driver-partners Emerald Circle tier for the subsequent quarter.

Super Steady Streak will also be paused for the period where the driver is quarantined and unable to meet the requirements.

This period is a challenging time for all private-hire and taxi drivers. They are in direct contact in an enclosed space with riders whom they have no background of where they have been. More help needs to be offered to drivers who are at greater risk than the average man on the street.
